Upcycling Program

Give your kids’ builds a new life!

Are you wondering what to do with all of the awesome (and rapidly multiplying) builds your kid made at our space that are now sitting around your home? Deconstruct and bring them back to us! We’ll give your kids a special prize for every bag of materials they bring back, we get to reuse materials, and you get to declutter: it’s a win-win-win!

Read on below for how to participate in the program:

Step 1: Say Goodbye

Snap a picture of your kid’s build to remember it by.

Step 2: Deconstruct

Accepted Materials:

  • Plastic cups and bowls

  • Paper cups and bowls

  • Pipe cleaners

  • Straws

  • Wooden sticks

  • Foam balls

  • Foam paper

  • Carboard

  • Felt

  • Other interesting, intact materials that deserve a second life!

Begin to take apart the build. Sort the pieces of the build into salvageable materials (which you will return to us) and junk (which you will not). For a general list of accepted materials, and a photo example of existing scrap materials, see below.

Tip: If a material would otherwise be eligible for upcycling, but it is significantly torn, bent, or otherwise damaged, toss it in the junk pile. If it could go either way, use your best judgment; we trust you!

Step 3: Bag & Bring

Bag up the salvageable materials and trash or recycle the leftovers. Have your kid bring their “Upcycling Bag” to their next class at Into the Future. With each “Upcycling Bag” they turn in, we’ll reward them with a special take-home prize!
